what they say
Being an avid fisherman of freshwater and Great Lakes salmon fishing I spend time on the water with some very qualified individuals. However this was my first true salt water trip. I do have a weaker stomach then most whom love the ocean. I can attest that the captain did his very best boat maneuvering to keep the boat as steady as possible even in what I’d deem an impossible task. We had good size rollers of 15 ft with a nice chop added to it. Captain did awesome. And the deckhand TJ did a great job for his tasks. I had almost no expectations for the trip because I had never gone and I know fishing is still fishing regardless whom your with. I’ll be honest after the Black Marlin your crew ruined me forever in a good way. Even after what would have been a great fish even by itself for the day the guys worked hard to get us on even more fish. They accomplished my goal for me and that was to make my shoulder ache from reeling. Thank you very much for the great experience.
We fished today with Captain Tony & Jordan, first mate. Day started off early with a big gaffer dolphin while heading to fishing grounds. We spent a couple hours jigging for tina and caught 38 (yellowfin & shipjack). Then switched to big lures and quickly hooked a huge pacific blue marlin. What a great time! We had three children with us and the youngest was 6, all had a great time! Thanks Tony for a great day fishing in Oahu!!
The drive to Waianae is well worth it, you are really going to have to traverse it either way by commuting at sea or boat, the Harbor is just minutes away from the most prime fishing grounds on O'ahu. Tony is a consummate professional and delivered probably the best fishing experience of my life.
We were asked to be out at 5am. Said the catch was better. later learned he wanted us off boat by noon so he could put on more passengars. drove big circles all day, barely off the coast. Pods if porpoises all around us all day, quite fascinating. Captain had no intention of doing anything but landed big big fish. This was great, but makes for a long boring day. No live bait, no smaller jigs, no action. Basically told to sit back and wait - this is serious commercial fishing and we have not time for smaller catches. No action..
March 6th my fiancé and I completed a 6 hour shared charter with captain Tony and first mate Jess. It was absolutely the highlight of our 8 days in Honolulu! Located in Waianea Boat Harbor this Charter Fishing experience was phenomenal! Their moto is “we catch fish”, and I truly believe they carry that moto well!! Morning started at 5:45 am, we set off from the Harbor and drew cards to see who cast the first line – my fiancé and I drew first and second casts of the group of 6.
This was my first deep water charter fishing trip, and it was well worth it.Had a great day on the water last week with Tony and Kanoa. Met at the boat at 5AM, as apparently the tuna had been active at first light lately and we wanted to take advantage - so be prepared to get up very early. While the first few hours were slow (sunrise excepted), the latter half of the day was great. It started with a decent Mahi Mahi, about 15-20 lbs. or so. An hour later, one of the lines was hit by a truck, as line absolutely screamed off the reel. After about 30 minutes, and two rotations through everyone on the boat putting their all into the reel, the crew was hoisting a 160 lb. Ahi tuna out of the water. What a magnificent fish.
Captain Tony and deckhand Jess were awesome. Clean, roomy safe boat and they put us on the fish right away! We caught númerous tuna, an Ono and were lucky enough to snag a trophy mahi mahi! We've been on fishing trips all around the world but this was the best so far! Will definitely book Boom Boom again when we come back to Oahu!!! Thanks Tony and Jess! Call us when your in Denver!
Great Trip!!! Great Crew!!! My wife and i booked a 6hr shared charter and had a wonderful experience. The "strangers" we fished with became friends by the end of the trip. Captain Tony is very friendly and helpful and knows where the fish are. We decided to drive the distance from Waikiki to Waianae so we would not have to ride from the Honolulu harbor to the fishing spots and waste our valuable fishing time. These trips aren't cheap. From the harbor, we were fishing within 15 minutes. Kanoa was the first mate/deck hand and i have nothing but great things to say about him.
this is the 2nd time he's used this sportfishing boat and he raves about them. It's a great location if you are staying on the West side of the island near Ko'Olina. Most recent trip he caught 10 fish close to the 30# range. He was in fishing heaven!
Had a great family charter with captain tony! Next time I want to do the whole day trip for chance to get opportunity to catch even bigger fish! No complaints at all ! Will make this a tradition for next time we are on Oahu!
I am usually the guy who goes out fishing and hears the stories about how great it was every day up until that one, and I try to content myself with enjoying the beer and the scenery. Not so with Tony. He goes to the fish like a laser, and his crew is terrific. Tony was determined to leave the dock not a minute late to catch a certain kind of live bait, which turned out to be the key as the mahi mahi vastly preferred it to the lures being used by other boats. We reeled in big fish all morning, leaving one on the hook to attract another in a serial fashion. Awesome day, awesome boat, awesome crew. We had all the mahi mahi Tony could hold by noon, and then caught a few tuna for sashimi that night. Tony took great pleasure in masterfully filleting them for us on the dock. Thanks, Tony!
I took my father and family on a trip with Tony on November 12th. Tony was the only charter to respond to my emails in Waienae, but that wasn't the only reason we booked with him... we loved the reviews on Trip Advisor and so we already had our mind made up. We booked a 6 hour morning fish. The boat was easy to find - it was all lit up in the morning darkness at 5:45 AM in the harbour. It is a huge and sturdy boat. There are pretty big swells that morning but the boat handled them easily - not sure a smaller boat would have been able to do the same. It took an hour to get to the reef on the NW side of the island, but once there it didn't take long to hook up. We caught 19 Bonitas (small Tuna) which included many double headers and a triple.
You have several options when it comes to chartering a boat for fishing on Oahu, what they don't tell you is the best fishing is on the west side near where Boom Boom is based, so if you charter out if Waikiki you'll pay more and likely waste time on the boat coming out to the west side anyway. Better off driving to Waianae. Our 450lb Marlin is proof.
let's go fishing
